Merve Konucu

Merve KONUCU is a Ph.D. candidate at Ghent University (Belgium) under the supervision of Prof. Erik Meers. She holds a M.Sc. in Biotechnology from Mersin University (Turkey). Within the scope of her master thesis, she studied phytoplankton identification and isolation from the northeastern Mediterranean Sea. She had her first internship in the algal molecular analysis field at Szczecin University (Poland) in 2019 and then in 2020 she participated in the ALG-AD project at Ghent University (Belgium). She had her second internship at GreenCoLab’s partner Necton in 2021 as part of the AlgaCycle project in Portugal. Since 2022 she has been working on the Nutri2Cycle project. Her research interest is microalgae biotechnology and her doctoral study focused on harvesting microalgae by coagulation-flocculation method and characterization of microalgal biomass.
