Miriam Beyers is a PhD candidate in the joint PhD program with the University of Copenhagen (Denmark) and Ghent University (Belgium) within the Nutri2Cycle project. Research work is carried out at both universities. Prof. Sander Bruun (Denmark) and Prof. Erik Meers (Belgium) supervise Miriam.
The topic of her PhD is “Life Cycle Assessment of technologies to close nutrient cycles and decrease environmental impacts of agricultural production”.
The main goal of this work is to assess technologies, which have proven to close C, N, and P loops regarding their overall environmental impact, including those outside the farm or plant. Technologies under study include Pig slurry acidification, Insect breeding on organic waste materials, Precision farming, and Struvite recovery from municipal wastewater.
